A sauna thermometer tells you how hot the room really is, which is often different from what the heater or control panel says. Most also have a hygrometer for humidity. They are cheap, but range, accuracy and placement decide whether the reading means anything.
This roundup scores six gauges sold on Amazon on what each listing states. Listings were collected 3 October 2026.

Range and stated accuracy
| Gauge | Temperature range | Accuracy stated | Can recalibrate | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| defull 5in Stainless | 70°F to 250°F | Not stated | Not stated | 6 months |
| La Crosse 914-612 | 60°F to 240°F | Not stated | Not stated | 2 years |
| DUNUO Cedar 2-in-1 | 30°F to 250°F | ±4°F, ±5% RH | Yes | Not stated |
| MIKSUS 10in Wood | About 50°F to 250°F | Not stated | Yes, rear knob | Not stated |
| Northwood Cedar 2-in-1 | 30°F to 250°F | Not stated | Yes | Not stated |
| Andelov Lanyard | 68°F to 212°F | ±2°F, ±3% RH | Not stated | Not stated |
Check the top of the scale before you buy. A traditional sauna can run well above 180°F, and the air near the ceiling is hotter than at bench level, so a gauge that stops at 212°F has little margin there. Infrared cabins and steam tents run cooler. One listing in our search was an ordinary room thermometer that stops at 120°F; it would be useless in a sauna.
A gauge you can recalibrate stays useful when it drifts. Check it against a trusted thermometer once in a while and adjust if needed.
Where to mount it
Temperature changes a lot with height in a sauna. Mount the gauge where your head is when you sit, and keep it away from the heater and out of the path of water or steam from the stones. Follow your heater manual if it specifies a spot.
What 20 listings state
We read 20 gauge listings. Only 4 state a warranty term, and only a few give an accuracy figure. Several are near copies of each other under different brand names. One showed a price of ten cents, which is not a real offer, so we ignored it.
Score notes
The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance covers range, stated accuracy, calibration and readability. Safety certifications do not apply to a mechanical gauge, so all score zero there.
| Product | Chill Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| defull 5in Stainless | 9.6 | 27 | 20 | 22 | n/a | 1 |
| La Crosse 914-612 | 9.6 | 27 | 21 | 19 | n/a | 3 |
| DUNUO Cedar 2-in-1 | 9.6 | 29 | 20 | 20 | n/a | 0 |
| MIKSUS 10in Wood | 9.6 | 28 | 20 | 20 | n/a | 0 |
| Northwood Cedar 2-in-1 | 9.5 | 27 | 20 | 19 | n/a | 0 |
| Andelov Lanyard | 9.5 | 27 | 19 | 22 | n/a | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score. Safety counts only for powered gear or where the listing states safety features; where it does not apply, the score is taken over the remaining 90 points.
defull and La Crosse tie on top: defull on value, La Crosse on its two year warranty. DUNUO states the most about accuracy.
Who should not buy one
If your sauna’s control panel already shows the temperature and you trust it, a second gauge mostly confirms it. It is still worth having if your heater sensor is far from the benches.

Common questions
Why does my gauge read differently from my heater?
The heater sensor and the gauge sit in different spots, and heat varies a lot with height. Neither is wrong; they measure different places.
Do I need a hygrometer?
It helps in a traditional sauna, where pouring water raises humidity and makes the same temperature feel much hotter.
Analog or digital?
Every pick here is analog, which needs no batteries. If you choose a digital gauge, check that its stated range covers your sauna’s top temperature.
