Chillers and Filtration: a quick buyer's checklist

1. Cooling capacity. The maker states capacity in BTU or horsepower. Match it to the volume of water, not just the tub type.
2. Compressor type. Compressor units and thermoelectric units work differently. The spec sheet usually names which one.
3. Noise. Quoted decibel figures are the maker's claim, so check where they were measured.
4. Power and protection. Confirm the voltage, plug and GFCI requirement. Many chillers state no safety listing at all.
5. Filter and sanitizer upkeep. Note filter sizes, replacement schedule and consumables.
6. Hose and fitting sizes. Compare the maker's stated connections with your tub before ordering, since adapters add cost and leak points.

Pumps, ozone units and chillers must be compatible with your tub's fittings, so confirm hose sizes before you order. Have mains wiring checked by a licensed electrician. Most chiller listings say little about safety certification, so we flag it when a brand states none. Regard that silence as a real gap, and ask the seller for the listing documents if you cannot find them. If a figure is missing from a spec sheet, we say it is not stated, and a buyer can ask the brand directly.
