Cold Plunge: a quick buyer's checklist

  1. Chiller or no chiller. Decide whether you want a built-in chiller, a separate one or ice. This sets the setup and the ongoing cost.
  2. Rated water temperature. Compare the minimum temperature the maker states and the room conditions it assumes.
  3. Power and outlet. A chiller or pump should run from a GFCI-protected outlet. Check the stated voltage and plug.
  4. Water care. Look for filtration, ozone or sanitizer, and how often the maker says to change the water.
  5. Space and weight. A filled tub is heavy. Check dimensions and the surface it will stand on.
  6. Warranty and parts. Chillers and pumps are the parts that fail. Note the stated term, what is covered and whether replacement parts are sold.

Cold water is not right for everyone, and you should never plunge alone. Read our cold plunge safety guide and medical disclaimer first. A cold plunge setup has more parts than it looks like: tub, chiller, filter, cover and a place to stand it. Count all of them in your cost and space plan, and compare what each maker states about power use and water care before you choose a system.
