A cold plunge filter keeps hair, skin flakes and grit out of the water so you change it less often. There are two kinds: inline sediment housings that sit in the hose loop between a chiller and the tub, and drop-in pump units with their own filter and often a UV lamp, for tubs without a chiller.
This roundup scores six filters sold on Amazon on what each listing states. Bath faucet filters turned up in the same search and are left out; they filter tap water, not a circulating tub. Listings were collected 4 October 2026.

Micron: a smaller number catches finer particles but clogs sooner. 20 micron cartridges catch finer debris than 50 micron ones. Ports: match the filter’s thread size to your chiller’s hoses, or budget for adapters. Flow: at a stated 600 gallons an hour, a pump could in theory cycle a 120 gallon tub in about 12 minutes; real flow through a dirty filter is lower.
Upkeep and cost
Cartridges are the running cost. Plunge Crafters suggests replacing its cartridges monthly with daily use, and one drop-in brand suggests changing filter media every two weeks. Rinse cartridges between changes if the maker allows it. A filter extends the life of the water but does not replace sanitizing; see cold plunge water care.
We read 20 listings. Four state a warranty, none names an electrical safety listing, and half state a tub size in gallons.
Electrical and UV safety
Drop-in units put a mains powered pump in the water you sit in. Plug them into a GFCI protected outlet, keep the cord and plug dry, and follow the manual on whether the unit may run while someone is in the tub; if the manual does not say, unplug it first. UV-C at 254nm can damage eyes and skin, so never look at a lit lamp outside its housing.
Score notes
The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance covers micron rating, fittings, air bleeding and stated flow. No listing names a safety certification, so all score zero there.
| Product | Chill Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plunge Crafters 10in | 9.5 | 29 | 20 | 22 | 0 | 0 |
| Poafamx 5in Kit | 9.4 | 27 | 19 | 20 | 0 | 2 |
| AS ColdPlunge Kit | 9.4 | 28 | 20 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| COOSPIDER 600GPH UV | 9.4 | 27 | 19 | 19 | 0 | 2 |
| BAOSHISHAN 20 Micron | 9.4 | 28 | 20 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| TARARIUM 600GPH | 9.4 | 27 | 19 | 20 | 0 | 1 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
Plunge Crafters leads on a complete, standard 10 inch kit. Poafamx is the only inline kit with a warranty. For a tub without a chiller, the COOSPIDER drop-in states the most and has a warranty.
Who should not buy one
If your plunge came with a built-in filter, buy that maker’s cartridges instead. If you change the water every few days in a small tub, a filter may not be worth it. And if you cannot get a GFCI outlet near the tub, skip the drop-in pumps.
For the cooling side, see cold plunge chillers. For tubs, see cold plunge tubs and cold plunges under $1,000.
Common questions
Do I need a filter if my tub has a chiller?
Most chillers need clean water to protect the pump and coil. Many chiller kits include a filter; if yours does not, an inline kit is a cheap addition.
Does UV replace sanitizer?
The listings present UV as chemical free cleaning, but it only treats water that passes the lamp. Follow your tub maker’s advice on sanitizing.
How often should I change the cartridge?
When flow drops or the cartridge looks dirty, and at least as often as the maker suggests.
