A red light therapy mat is a flexible pad lined with LEDs, usually at 660nm red and 850nm near infrared. You lie on it, lean against it, or wrap it around a knee or your waist. Mats are cheaper per square inch than rigid panels, but they also tell you less about how much light reaches your skin.

This roundup scores six mats sold on Amazon on what each listing states. For rigid panels, see full body red light panels. Listings were collected 4 October 2026.

This article is informational and is not medical advice. None of these mats is presented here as a treatment for pain or any condition. If you are pregnant, have a light sensitive condition, take medication that makes you sensitive to light, or have a skin condition, ask a doctor before using one. See our Medical Disclaimer.

LED density: how packed the mat is

A bigger mat with the same number of LEDs spreads them thinner. We divided each mat’s stated LED count by its stated area. This says nothing about how bright each LED is, but it is the one comparison every listing lets you make.

Mat Size LEDs stated LEDs per sq in Power stated Warranty
LTW 540 LED 37 x 16.9 in 540 0.86 38 W Not stated
Comfytemp 24×12 24 x 12 in 242 0.84 Not stated Not stated
Lunamyst 72×33 72 x 33 in 1,436 0.60 Not stated 365 days
Morespond 240 LED 31.5 x 14.5 in 240 0.53 Not stated Not stated
Comfytemp 41×26 41.5 x 26 in 560 0.52 Not stated Not stated
pedete LP-099B 39 x 24 in 400 0.43 61 W 12 months

We read 20 mat listings. All 20 state 660nm and 850nm, but only 2 give an irradiance figure and only 2 state a warranty. None claims FDA clearance or names an electrical safety listing. Thirteen of the 19 with a known date were first listed in 2026, so most mats have very short track records. Several call themselves medical grade, which is a marketing term with no fixed meaning.

What it costs to run

Only two mats state their power. At full rated power, using 18.34 cents per kWh, the US residential average for June 2026 from the Energy Information Administration:

Product Rated power Per one hour Per month, 4 sessions a week
pedete LP-099B 61 W 1 cents $0.19
LTW 540 LED 38 W 1 cents $0.12

Running cost is negligible. A mat costs about a cent or two per hour even at full power.

Score notes

The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance covers stated LED count, coverage, power and irradiance. No mat names a safety certification, so all score zero there.

Product Chill Score Perf. /35 Build /25 Value /25 Safety /10 Warranty /5
pedete LP-099B 9.5 28 20 20 0 2
Lunamyst 72×33 9.5 29 20 19 0 2
Comfytemp 24×12 9.4 27 20 22 0 0
LTW 540 LED 9.4 29 19 21 0 0
Comfytemp 41×26 9.4 28 20 20 0 0
Morespond 240 LED 9.4 26 19 22 0 0

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.

pedete and Lunamyst lead because they state a warranty. LTW states the most about output but is new.

Who should not buy one

If you want a measured dose at a known distance, a mat is the wrong format; panels state more, though their figures also need checking. See red light irradiance explained. If you mainly want to treat one joint, a wrap may suit better; see red light therapy for knees and red light therapy belts.

Common questions

Do I need eye protection with a mat?

Yes if the LEDs can face your eyes, for example when you lie face up under a full body mat. Only one mat here says it includes eyewear.

Is a mat FSA or HSA eligible?

Some listings say so. Eligibility depends on your plan’s rules, so ask your plan administrator before relying on it.

Are any of these FDA cleared?

None of the 20 listings we read claims FDA clearance. See what FDA clearance means for red light.
