An ozone generator makes ozone gas from air and pushes it into the water, where it breaks down sweat, oils and lotions that cloud a plunge and cause odors. Spa makers have used ozonators for decades, and plunge owners now add them to tubs and stock tanks.
This roundup scores five ozone units sold on Amazon on what each listing states. Listings were collected 5 October 2026.
This article is informational and is not medical advice. Ozone gas irritates the lungs. Never breathe it in on purpose, and keep bubblers away from anyone with asthma or lung disease. See our Medical Disclaimer.

Inline or bubbler?
There are two kinds. Inline ozonators (Clarathon, Plunge Crafters, A2Z, Lamudo) make 50 to 300 mg/h and feed ozone into a pump line through a venturi injector. They need a circulation loop and run while the pump runs. Bubblers (HOSOUTION) make 1000 to 2000 mg/h and push ozone through a stone dropped into the tub. They need no plumbing, but they release more ozone into the air, so run them on a timer with nobody in the tub and the room ventilated.
Ozone is not a full sanitizer
Ozone breaks down quickly and, as Plunge Crafters notes, leaves no residual in the water. That means it is not working between runs. Pair it with filtration, regular water changes, and a sanitizer if your tub maker recommends one. See our guide to cold plunge water care.

Installing and using ozone safely
- Plug any unit near water into a GFCI protected outlet, and keep the generator itself dry and above the water line.
- Always fit the check valve, so water cannot run back into the generator.
- Run bubblers only when nobody is in the tub, and wait at least as long as the maker says before getting in.
- Use ozone resistant tubing; ordinary vinyl hardens and cracks.
Score notes
The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance covers stated output, install details and fit for a plunge. Clarathon gets partial safety credit for a UL Recognized mark; the others state none.
| Product | Chill Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clarathon Spa Ozonator | 9.6 | 30 | 20 | 20 | 5 | 0 |
| Plunge Crafters SPA-124 | 9.5 | 29 | 20 | 20 | 0 | 2 |
| A2Z Ozone Aquatic | 9.4 | 29 | 20 | 19 | 0 | 0 |
| Lamudo SPA-124 Venturi | 9.4 | 28 | 19 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| HOSOUTION 2000mg Bubbler | 9.4 | 27 | 19 | 20 | 0 | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
Clarathon leads on its safety mark and switchable output. Plunge Crafters is the inline pick made for plunges, with a warranty.
Who should not buy these
If your plunge has a built in chiller with its own ozone or UV system, check the manual before adding another. If someone in your home has asthma, skip bubblers. And if your water clouds fast, start with filtration; see cold plunge filters and covers.
For tubs and chillers, see cold plunge tubs and chillers. Read cold plunge safety before your first session.
Common questions
How much ozone do I need?
Inline units for spas typically make 50 to 300 mg/h, which suits a tub with a pump. Higher output bubblers clean faster but release more ozone into the room.
Can I use an air ozone machine?
Some water units also clean air. Never run an air ozone machine in a room where people or pets are present.
