LED lamp or heat lamp?
Search results mix two kinds of product. LED lamps use red and near infrared LEDs at set wavelengths, usually 660 and 850 nm, and stay fairly cool. Infrared heat lamps use a 150 to 275 W bulb that mainly gives warmth. Both are sold as red light therapy, but they are different devices. This roundup covers LED lamps. If you want warmth, a heat lamp is the tool, and it needs more care with distance and burns.
What each lamp discloses
| Lamp | LEDs | Wavelengths | Power | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Comfytemp 55W Lamp | Not stated | 660, 850 nm | 55 W | Not stated |
| LEDINO 204 LED Lamp | 204 | 660, 850, 940 nm | Not stated | 2 years |
| Viconor 120 LED Lamp | 120 | 660, 850 nm | Not stated | Not stated |
| Morfone LLD-120D | 120 | 660, 850, 940 nm | Not stated | Not stated |
| wolezek Desk Lamp | 18 | 660, 850 nm | Not stated | Not stated |
| SAVILER 4 Head Lamp | 200 | 660, 850 nm | Not stated | Not stated |
We read 20 listings. Eighteen state wavelengths, but only three state power, one states irradiance and three state a warranty. None names a UL or ETL listing or an FDA clearance.
What it costs to run
Only a few listings state power, so the table below adds two heat lamps from our search for comparison. At full rated power, using 18.34 cents per kWh, the US residential average for June 2026 from the Energy Information Administration:
| Product | Rated power | Per one hour | Per month, 4 sessions a week |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comfytemp 55W LED lamp | 55 W | 1 cents | $0.17 |
| Hoakya 150 W heat bulb lamp | 150 W | 3 cents | $0.48 |
| QAIHOE 275 W heat lamp | 275 W | 5 cents | $0.87 |
LED lamps cost pennies a month to run. Heat lamps cost more, though still little at short sessions.
Using a lamp safely
- Wear goggles or close your eyes. Near infrared is invisible, so a lamp can look dim while putting out light. See red light therapy goggles.
- Keep to the distance and time in the manual, and move back if skin feels hot.
- Set the stand on a flat floor and keep the cable out of walkways.
- Check the voltage on the label is 120 V before plugging in.
Score notes
The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance covers what each listing discloses about LEDs, wavelengths, power and irradiance. No lamp states an electrical safety listing, so safety is zero for all.
| Product | Chill Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Comfytemp 55W Lamp | 9.5 | 32 | 20 | 19 | 0 | 0 |
| LEDINO 204 LED Lamp | 9.5 | 29 | 20 | 20 | 0 | 3 |
| Viconor 120 LED Lamp | 9.4 | 29 | 20 | 20 | 0 | 0 |
| Morfone LLD-120D | 9.4 | 29 | 20 | 20 | 0 | 0 |
| wolezek Desk Lamp | 9.4 | 26 | 20 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| SAVILER 4 Head Lamp | 9.4 | 27 | 19 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
LEDINO scores highest on its 2 year warranty. Comfytemp discloses the most about output. wolezek is the simple low cost desk option.
Who should not buy these
If you want to cover your whole body, a lamp is too small; see full body red light panels. If you want to treat one small spot on the go, a wand is simpler. And if you already have a lamp fixture, a red light bulb costs less.
For background, see red light irradiance explained.
Common questions
How far should I sit from a lamp?
Follow the manual. Irradiance falls quickly with distance, which is why a figure without a distance tells you little.
Is 940 nm better than 850 nm?
Both are near infrared and invisible. Listings that add 940 nm do not show that it changes results, so we do not score it higher.
