A traditional sauna heats the air with an electric stove and a basket of stones, and you pour water on the stones for steam. It runs much hotter than an infrared cabin, up to about 195°F, and it needs a 240V circuit that most rooms do not have.

This roundup scores six indoor traditional cabins sold on Amazon on what each listing states: heater power, how that compares with the room, the wood and the warranty. Listings were collected 2 October 2026.

More to compare

Heater power against room size

A heater that is too small for the room warms up slowly and may never reach the top temperature. We worked out each cabin’s exterior volume from the stated dimensions. Interior volume is somewhat smaller.

Cabin Heater Exterior volume Approximate draw at 240V
ZONEMEL 3-Person Cedar 6 kW About 145 cu ft 25 A
AURGOD 2-Person 6 kW Not stated 25 A
ZONEMEL 2-3 Person 4.5 kW About 121 cu ft 19 A
TaTalife Corner 4.5 kW About 200 cu ft 19 A
HOSAUNA 2-4 Person 3 kW About 97 cu ft 12.5 A
OUTEXER 2-3 Person 3 kW About 85 cu ft 12.5 A

For reference, standalone heaters in our sauna heater roundup state ranges such as 106 to 212 cubic feet for 4.5 kW and 170 to 300 for 6 kW. Most of these listings rate the heater at 220V. US homes supply 240V, so have an electrician confirm the heater, breaker and wire before delivery. A sauna heater is hardwired, not plugged in. Our sauna electrical guide explains why.

What the listings do and do not state

We read 11 indoor traditional cabin listings. All 11 state heater power, 9 state voltage and only 1 states amperage. Only 1 mentions a warranty, with no term, and none states a UL, ETL or CSA listing for the cabin.

Four listings across two brand names, ZONEMEL and Smartmak, use model numbers in the same SMT-040 series, which suggests one manufacturer behind several storefronts. Several name a Harvia heater, but none states whether the heater or the whole cabin carries a safety listing. Ask the seller for that document before you pay.

What each one costs to run

At full power, using 18.34 cents per kWh, the US residential average for June 2026 from the Energy Information Administration. A heater runs flat out while the room warms up, then cycles, so a real session costs less.

Product Rated power Per one hour Per month, 4 sessions a week
ZONEMEL 3-Person Cedar 6,000 W $1.10 $19.07
AURGOD 2-Person 6,000 W $1.10 $19.07
ZONEMEL 2-3 Person 4,500 W 83 cents $14.31
TaTalife Corner 4,500 W 83 cents $14.31
HOSAUNA 2-4 Person 3,000 W 55 cents $9.54
OUTEXER 2-3 Person 3,000 W 55 cents $9.54

The monthly column assumes four one hour sessions a week at full power, so treat it as a ceiling. See our running cost guide to use your own rate.

Score notes

The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance means heater power matched to the room, temperature range and controls. Build favors cedar over hemlock, pine and fir.

Product Chill Score Perf. /35 Build /25 Value /25 Safety /10 Warranty /5
ZONEMEL 3-Person Cedar 9.4 30 21 18 0 0
AURGOD 2-Person 9.4 30 20 19 0 0
ZONEMEL 2-3 Person 9.4 29 19 18 0 0
HOSAUNA 2-4 Person 9.4 27 19 19 0 1
OUTEXER 2-3 Person 9.4 27 19 20 0 0
TaTalife Corner 9.4 29 20 15 0 0

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.

No cabin in this search states a safety listing, so every one scores zero for safety. Our method normally excludes mains powered products without one, but where a whole category offers none we include them, score safety at zero and say so. Only one listing mentions a warranty, and it gives no term.

Who should not buy one

If you cannot add a 240V circuit, a traditional cabin is not an option. Look at 120V infrared cabins in our indoor saunas under $2,000 instead.

If you rent, or plan to move soon, a hardwired cabin is a poor fit. A portable steam sauna or sauna blanket moves with you.

Common questions

Can a traditional sauna plug into a wall outlet?

Not the cabins here. Every heater in this roundup is 3 kW or more on 220V to 240V and should be hardwired by a licensed electrician.

How hot does a traditional sauna get?

These listings state a top of 194°F to 195°F. Most people use a lower setting. Start low and keep sessions short.

Is a bigger heater always better?

No. Match the heater to the room volume. An oversized heater cycles on and off, and an undersized one never reaches temperature.
