A massage gun with an extension handle lets you reach your own upper and lower back without help. Some use a detachable rod, some fold or telescope, and a few pivot the head so it faces back toward you. Reach, grip and how firmly the handle locks matter as much as the motor.
This roundup scores six guns sold on Amazon on what each listing states. Listings were collected 4 October 2026.

Using a long handle safely
With the gun behind you, you cannot see where the head lands. Work on the muscles to either side of the spine, never on the spine itself, and keep off the shoulder blade edges and the back of the head and neck. Start at the lowest speed, keep the head moving, and stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness or tingling. See massage gun safety.
Score notes
The Chill Score weighs performance 35, build 25, value 25, safety certifications 10 where it applies and warranty 5. Here, performance covers stated reach, how the handle adjusts, amplitude and battery. No listing names a safety certification, so all score zero there.
| Product | Chill Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Naplor NRG-200 | 9.5 | 29 | 20 | 20 | 0 | 3 |
| Bob and Brad L9 | 9.5 | 29 | 21 | 19 | 0 | 3 |
| RENPHO Reach Curve | 9.5 | 30 | 20 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
| CAREKING M8S | 9.4 | 27 | 19 | 20 | 0 | 2 |
| NAPRE NEG-100 | 9.4 | 29 | 20 | 20 | 0 | 0 |
| FVZ JA-G4 | 9.4 | 27 | 20 | 21 | 0 | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
Naplor and Bob and Brad lead on their two year warranties. RENPHO has the longest reach by far. NAPRE has the shortest reach.
Who should not buy one
If someone at home can use an ordinary gun on your back, you do not need a long handle; see best massage guns or massage guns under $100. If you want something gentler for your back, a foam roller or massage ball against a wall costs less. And if you have a back injury or a spinal condition, ask a doctor first.
Common questions
Detachable or folding handle?
A detachable handle usually gives more reach. A folding one is quicker to switch and has no loose parts to lose. Check that either kind locks firmly.
How long should the handle be?
Long enough to reach between your shoulder blades without straining. Among guns that state it, the longest reach here is 18.5 inches.
Is 10mm amplitude better?
It hits deeper, which some people find too strong on the back. A 7mm or 8mm gun is gentler.
